How Am I Doing?

Ponderings

I don't know what to do about this whole surgery thing.

I've been working out nearly every single day at the gym, and have been seeing some progress. I actually have muscles! I mean, you have to feel them through the fat in my arms, but hey, it's a start...

But I guess I was expecting more. I haven't weighed myself in a while... but I haven't seen much difference in size. I could be wrong. Maybe I should weigh myself.

I should look more into surgery, I think. My main problem, and I'm just going to say it straight out, is that I love food too damn much. I'm scared, not of the surgery, but of not being able to eat afterwards and missing out on good food. And man, do I love good food...

It sucks. All of this.

Except that I do love the gym. I love the pool at the gym. I just don't love being at the gym for hours and hours and not seeing any results!

  1. All the cardio in the world won't slim you down unless you make the accompanying dietary changes. That's just how it is. Bravo on the working out! Your body is getting healthier and stronger. But to lose all the weight? You simply can't continue to over feed yourself with the wrong foods. The change will never happen until you eat right.

  2. Gaining muscles means you'll be needing more calories, and will be able to be more active. It also might mean you won't see a difference on the scale even though your body is getting healthy (muscle weighs more than fat! don't take gains in weight as a setback if you know you've been working hard).

I know what you mean about food though - For me, I get this feeling like if I don't have whatever it is --right now- it's a huge tragedy and I'll never be able to eat it again. I can't keep cookies or anything like that in the house because of it. I actually tried a youtube meditation video about overeating a few times. For me what works best is staying away from situations where I know I'll just be eating and eating. Like, if I'm home watching tv and those cookies are in the house. What also helps is eating food that's 'high reward' for meals. Like foods that are very flavorful or pretty high in fat (so, pretty ideal for me would be like 3 inches of porkbelly with a veggie sauteed in spices or mushroom powder and salt). It makes it a lot easier to listen to my body and stop eating when I'm full. I still struggle with it, though. Especially if I'm in a bad mood.
